DEFENSE FUND APPEAL
About a year ago an appeal was made to readers of both TRANSVESTIA and TURNABOUT for money to support the legal appeal of one of our sisters in New York. Between the two publications and the Foundation nearly $1000 was raised. These funds were expended in handling the lower court costs and in preparing the appeal to the higher New York Cour The Court of Appeals of New York refused to hear th case because of a prior case involving cross dressin in which the appeal had been denied.
This is actually a good thing for us because now case can be appealed directly to the Supreme Court the United States without the costly intermediate pro cesses. However Supreme Court appeals are tediou! and costly and although the firm of attorneys handlin this case have been as considerate of the financial aspects as they could be, they too have costs to meet So at this time it is necessary to appeal once again for funds.
Now is the time for all who read this to stop and think! We have all complained about the law. This case is no longer just a matter for the individual involved. It is OUR case and probably the only time we will ever have the opportunity to get the matter of the freedom of expression in clothing reviewed by the Supreme Court of the United States. A favourabl decision will affect every one of us regardless of whe we live. We MUST have the money to carry this figh to a conclusion and we have a pretty good chance of winning it.
